Rishad Premji, the Executive Chairman of Wipro, took to X and shared an emotional post to mark the historic event of the company turning 80-years-old on December 29, 2025. The group was formed in 1945, which is almost two years before India became independent. To celebrate the occasion, Premji also posted a digital copy of the company’s original Certificate of Incorporation, which lists the firm by its original name, Western India Vegetable Products Limited.

A legacy older than Independent India

Premji posted an old photo of the document that connects the tech giant to its humble beginnings in Amalner, Maharashtra, on X (formerly Twitter). The firm has changed a lot over the past 80 years. It started out making vanaspati ghee and refined oils. He wrote, “Wipro turned 80 yesterday on December 29, 1945.” Two years before India became independent, we started our business. This is the oldest copy of the certificate of incorporation for Western India Vegetable Products, which is known as Wipro. “Thank you for letting me be part of this legacy.”

Wipro completes HARMAN DTS acquisition

Wipro is looking back on its past while also getting ready for a future that will be full of AI. As per a report from PTI, the Bengaluru-based IT giant successfully finished buying the Digital Transformation Solutions (DTS) business unit from HARMAN. This business unit is a Samsung subsidiary, for USD 375 million (about 3,270 crore.)

Earlier this month, the deal got its final regulatory approvals. It is a major step in Wipro’s plan to grow its engineering research and development (ER&D) service offerings. The purchase adds more than 5,600 workers from Europe, Asia, and North America to Wipro’s Engineering Global Business Line.

The company stated in its press release that this move is more than just adding more employees. The DTS unit has a lot of experience with embodied AI, customer experience platforms, and embedded software. The company’s main set of AI-powered platforms, “Wipro Intelligence,” will utilise these solutions.

The company stated that, “ The acquisition of DTS is a major step ahead in Wipro’s commitment to improving AI capabilities, R&D excellence, and engineering innovation.” This strategic integration makes the firm stay at the cutting edge of the global technology landscape as it enters its ninth decade.
