Amid a growing climate of hostility toward immigrant workers in the West, a viral video of an office Christmas party in Canada has sparked a wave of racist backlash online.

The clip, which purportedly shows a group of employees celebrating the holiday season, became the latest flashpoint in targeted hatred against Indian and South Asian workers at big tech companies.

‘Every single person is Indian’

Taking to X, a user shared the video online and captioned it: “NEW – Video emerges of an Amazon Christmas party in Canada. Everyone is Indian. Every. Single. Person. How does this happen?

The video was allegedly captured in an Amazon warehouse as per unverified reports and showed employees enjoying their meals together with someone dressed as a Santa Claus appearing in the background.

How did other netizens react?

While the video did not show anything out of the ordinary for a multinational firm like Amazon, negative replies soon poured in. Some users questioned how such a workforce composition was possible. Others alleged discriminatory hiring practices or tech companies abusing of immigration programmes like H1-B visas, while others framed the scene as evidence of cultural or demographic “replacement”.

A user questioned why employees of Indian origin were celebrating Christmas, writing, “I thought they didn’t celebrate Christmas so why are they having a Christmas party if they don’t even celebrate Christmas?”

“Just look at that food. Canadian corporations don’t serve Indian food typically. I couldn’t get a decent job in the 80 & 90s because I didn’t know anyone…Zero diversity at these locations,” another user lamented.

‘Don’t blame those who work hard’

Some users offered a counter view to the situation and said hardworking employees should not be blamed for the demographic makeup at these organisations.

“I used to work in a recruiting office in Amazon, whites are not even coming to register for jobs. Out of 100 applications we get only 5-10% white. You all cry for a job but don’t want to do it,” a user wrote.
