A 33-year-old software engineer who recently returned to India after working in the US for seven years has opened up about his struggles with health, motivation, and career on Reddit. The user shared that while he is financially stable, he feels disconnected, unmotivated, and unsure about the future.
Losing Health and Motivation
The Redditor explained, “Back in the U.S., I stayed active through hiking and sports, but now I’ve stopped doing those things. I’ve gained weight and feel dull and low on energy.” Despite holding a flexible remote job, he said his days pass quickly without time or interest for hobbies or exercise.
Career Uncertainty and Personal Life Challenges
He added, “I have wanted to start something of my own for a long time. However, I am not very social, have few connections, and do not know where to begin, even though I believe I have strong skills.” The engineer also highlighted that his personal life has suffered, stating he and his recently married spouse are unable to enjoy quality time together, making him feel as if he has become boring.
One user said, “Why will comparing with those who are ahead make you feel energised ? Isn’t this highly subjective ? Some people will feel energised, some will feel depressed.”
Another added, “This has nothing to with living in US or India! This a genuine case of “stuck in a downward spiral”. Start working out again, start perusing your hobbies. Things will be better soon.”
