Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic and world champion in javelin throw from India, is slated to participate in the ‘Paavo Nurmi’ Games in Turku, Finland, scheduled for June 18.

According to Olympics.com, organizers have confirmed Chopra’s participation in the ‘Paavo Nurmi’ Games. Established in 1957, this event is Finland’s premier track and field competition. Designated as a ‘Continental Tour Gold’ event, it holds the status of a top-tier World Athletics event.

The Paavo Nurmi Games will be Neeraj’s second competition of the year, following his season debut at the Doha Diamond League on May 10.

“Olympic champion @Neeraj_chopra1 returns to Turku in June and will face a high-quality field of competitors. The goal is to host the most competitive javelin competition of the summer before the Paris Olympics. #ContinentalTourGold,” according to the post on the official ‘X’ handle of Paavo Nurmi Games.

Neeraj Chopra’s previous records

In 2022, Chopra clinched a silver medal at the Paavo Nurmi Games with a throw of 89.30 meters, his personal best at the time. Later, during the Stockholm leg of the Diamond League 2022, Chopra surpassed himself with a remarkable throw of 89.94 meters, setting a new personal best and maintaining his national-level record to this day.
