In a tournament already known for its razzmatazz, the Indian Premier League has just upped the spectacle with its quirkiest new addition yet in the form of a robotic camera dog. Equal parts tech marvel and entertainment mascot, this four-legged robot is now stealing the spotlight on the sidelines.

The reveal came via a special video shared by the IPL on social media, where former New Zealand cricketer and commentator Danny Morrison introduced the robotic dog. In the clip, Morrison announced that the futuristic pup would join the broadcast team for the ongoing IPL 2025 season.

“It can walk, it can run, it can greet, but most importantly—this is pet vision,” he said. As the robotic companion stood on its hind legs and formed a mechanical heart with its limbs, Morrison joked, “Don’t get too close!”

Sporting a mounted camera where its snout would be, this mechanical pup is not just a showpiece. It walks, runs, jumps and even captures reflective surfaces for dynamic cricket visuals. First activated during today’s (April 13) match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, the robo-dog turned heads, left players puzzled and fans totally mesmerised.

In the video, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya greeted the bot with curiosity, while Delhi’s Axar Patel looked utterly confused. MI’s Reece Topley, on the other hand, seemed startled as the canine companion rose to stand.

The IPL has now launched a fan-driven campaign to name its robotic wonder. So, the next time you tune in, don’t just watch the match, also watch out for the dog who might just become the tournament’s most unexpected MVP.
