Gujarat Titans beat Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets
The brilliant partnership between Shankar and Sudharsan showed why GT is an all-star team. There’s such a rich batting lineup of GT that even the loss of big wickets such as openers – Wriddhiman Saha, Shubhman Gill and skipper Hardik Pandya – didn’t worry them. The critical partnership between Shankar and Sudharasan kept GT in the game despite the loss of wickets. Later, it was all about vintage Miller action. David Miller smashed some big shots and finished the clinical chase by GT to register the second win of the team in this season of IPL.
On the other hand, DC’s Anrich Nortje did a great job. His 148.8 kmph delivery had zero error margin that sent Gill back to pavilion. Khaleel Ahmed and Mitch Marsh also did a decent job. DC has a lot to think about in terms of team strategy for their next game.
One of the most heart-warming moments in the match was the sight of Rishabh Pant. The heavily-strapped regular skipper of DC waved to fans as the stadium erupted in loud cheer for RP17!
Earlier in the day, had it not been for Axar Patel’s fiery 36 off 22 and some solid shots by Sarfaraz Khan, Delhi Capitals would have floundered to put a respectable total against Gujarat Titans. The defending champions looked very much in control from the word go. DC lost two wickets in the power play thanks to super swing action by Md Shami. Later, Joseph Alzarri and Rashid Khan made sure that DC never return in the game. The batsmen look very flustered. That’s why Axar Patel’s big shots in last overs meant so much for DC.
Here are key moments of GT vs DC match:
GT win by 6 wickets!
Things are looking bit at ease for Gujarat Titans as David Millers gets to do what he does the best -- massive shots! The chase looks a cakewalk if Miller continues like this and get the job done. Meanwhile, fine inning by Sudharshan as he score 50.
Miller was given out by umpire. GT sought a review, and the out call was reversed. Yup, so much so for T20 drama!
Mitch Marsh kept his head shaking violently as Delhi Capitals sought review against not out call by umpire for Shankar. But DC won the review that ended the Shankar-Sudharshan partnership.
Even as the SS partnership looks solid, Mitch Marsh has sought another review for leg before. If DRS says out, it would be important wicket for DC
After the shocking loss of Hardik Pandya's wicket, Sudharshan and Shankar look steady with excellent running between the wicket punctuated by some solid shots. Delhi Capitals need a wicket at this moment to stay in the game.
Everyone was in huddle celebrating the wicket of Sai Sudarshan. But they lost the review and it's time for strategic timeout.
Khaleel Ahmed redeems himself as he sends back GT skipper Hardik Pandya. Cheers for DC fans who have not a great total on the board. Bowlers keep GT batting lineup on toes.
Anrich Nortje gets Shubhman Gill! And with this, Gujarat Titans have lost the openers. But not to worry because Hardik Pandya in on strike now!
Delhi Capitals get some success as Anrich Nortje gets Wriddhiman Saha. But that shouldn't worry GT. They still have Shubhman Gill on the crease.
Gill and Saha look amazing. Some good shots early in game.
The latest Jio livestreaming stats show that 1 crore people are wtching the GT vs DC match right now.
After playing some sensational shots and holding the fort for Delhi Capitals, Sarfaraz Khan walked back to pavilion after scoring 30 off 34 balls.
After Shami and Alzarri, Rashid Khan claimed one wicket. Delhi Capitals are down to 109 for 5 wickets. DC would need anywhere above 150 to give some challenge to GT.
If the current run rate continues with any loss of wicket, Delhi Capitals would be able to make around 160 runs against Gujarat Titans.
RP17 aka Rishabh Pant is in the house! The regular skipper is in the dugout. DC tweeted his pic a while back.
Just not the day for DC. After Warner, Alzarri Joseph sends back Rilee Rossouw in quick succession. Away team looks like they are at home, isn't it?
At present, Delhi Capitals have the current run rate of little over 8. Looks modest though considering the early setbacks.
After a lukewarm response initially, more viewers are tuning up to watch the match. Jio's live data shows that 91 lakh people are watching GT vs DC clash.
Md Shami is simply unstoppable! After Shaw, Shami gets Marsh. It's looking terrible for DC batters at the moment.
Oops! Things look bit down for Delhi Capitals already. Shami's dangerous swing action claimed the wicket of DC opener Prithvi Shaw. More pressure on skipper David Warner
Skipper Warner at play and he has to put in a grand total along with Shaw.
MD Shami is bowling the first over for GT. Thigs look bit scary for DC but guess what, it is just a scare! A lot weighing on Warner's mind
Akash Chopra, former cricketer and Hindi commentator, has tested positive for Covid-19 infection. Chopra took to Twitter to confirm the news. India has seen spike in daily coronavirus cases. Experts say that new variant - XBB 1.16 - is the reason for the latest surge.
