"Yakub Memon was a terrorist but his hanging episode was converted into a drama by both the Centre and the state government. Looking into the events preceding and following the hanging of this traitor who killed so many people, I feel that both governments only wanted riots to break out in the country," he said. "On the day of Yakub's hanging, newspapers printed so many pictures of this traitor, while we could barely see photos of a nationalist like A P J Abdul Kalam," he said. Raj Thackeray also blasted Salman Khan saying, "Salman is a man without brains, while his father is a respectable man. He does not read newspapers and does not know the law and thus went on tweeting in his (Yakub Memon's) favour.” (PTI) (10/08/2015) Anna Hazare gets death threat over AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal links </br><br> Social activist Anna Hazare has received a threat letter which states that he would be "bumped off" if he does not dissociate himself from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. A case has been registered under IPC section 506 (criminal intimidation) at Parner police station in Ahmednagar district, a police official from Parner said over phone. "The letter is dated August 7 and is mostly written in English," the official said. The letter warns Anna Hazare that he will meet the fate of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, who was killed in Pune two years back. (PTI) (10/08/2015) Trespass case slapped against AAP leader Alka Lamba </br><br> A day after she was attacked during an anti-drug drive in a North Delhi market, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Alka Lamba was booked for trespass and damage to property after a video clip emerged in which she was seen vandalising shops along with some of her supporters. On her part, Alka Lamba filed a complaint against BJP lawmaker OP Sharma for calling her a "drug addict". AAP alleged that the BJP legislator was behind the attack on Alka Lamba and that the video was shot from Sharma's shop. A senior Police official said a case against Lamba was registered at Kashmere Gate police station under Sections 451 (trespass), 427(mischief causing damage), 186 (deter public servant from official duty) of IPC on a complaint of traders including proprietor of the sweet shop Shiv Mishthan Bhandar where she was hit by a stone. The CCTV camera footage recovered from the shop showed Alka Lamba toppling the billing machine while one of her colleagues was seen pushing everything from a table and jostling with cops. Radhe Maa said she was "pure and pious". "The complainant is very poor. If I haven't taken anything from my daughters-in-law, who belong to royal families, then why will I take money from a poor person who doesn't have anything to eat?" Radhe Maa said. A 32-year-old woman had filed a complaint of domestic violence and dowry harassment against her in-laws and Radhe Maa. She alleged that the 'godwoman' instigated her in-laws. (PTI) (10/08/2015) Porn ban: Don't believe in 'totalitarian state', says Centre </br><br> The NDA government, under attack for blocking porn sites, today told the Supreme Court that it does not believe in a "totalitarian" state and cannot become moral police. The government, however, told a bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu that it has blocked the "porn sites dealing with child pornography" and this is "standard accepted practice" across the globe. "Child pornography has to be banned. There is no doubt about it. But, it is difficult as the geographical frontiers have now become meaningless. You ban 10 such websites, five new will come up," Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said. "The state cannot become the moral police. We cannot peek inside. Every computer and mobile phone have a child lock….It is difficult to stop such things," he said. Taking their antagonism a step further, Nitish Kumar said 50 lakh people will participate in a signature campaign and also send their DNA samples to the PM for tests. (PTI) (10/08/2015) 10 killed, 30 injured in Baidyanathdham temple stampede in Deogarh </br><br> Ten pilgrims including a woman were killed and over 30 injured in a stampede near the Baidyanathdham temple early today as several devotees lined up for special prayers during the auspicious Shravan month suddenly surged forward breaking the queue. "Nine men and a woman died in the stampede," Additional Director General of Police S N Pradhan said. Earlier, Deoghar District Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar had said 11 persons, including one women, were killed in the stampede. Deoghar is lcoated about 350 km from Ranchi. Govt panel which probed the incident in Deoghar, said a couple of devotees standing on the sloped surface tumbled down after pressure of the crowd increased between 3 and 4 am, triggering the stampede. "After evaluating the entire available material against the petitioner, I find prima facie the exact role of the petitioner being the Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology in misusing his office for his wrongful gain by obtaining telephone connections illegally in the name of BSNL officials under "service category", he said. The judge granted three days for Maran to surrender before CBI before 4.30 pm on August 13. (PTI) (10/08/2015) Muslim Personal Law Board must appeal Ram Temple order: Asaduddin Owaisi </br><br> AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said the All India Muslim Personal Law Board should file an appeal against the Supreme Court order allowing replacement of tarpaulin and other material at the makeshift Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya. "AIMPLB must appeal against (the ruling) or implead itself in this particular case," he said on the social networking site, Twitter. The Supreme Court ordered replacement of "old and worn-out" tarpaulin sheet, ropes and other material at the makeshift Ram temple. (PTI) (10/08/2015) High Court junks petition seeking to take away Sachin Tendulkar's Bharat Ratna </br><br> The Madhya Pradesh High Court dismissed a petition demanding that the Bharat Ratna honour of cricket icon and batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar be revoked. V K Naswah, the petitioner, had said that Sachin Tendulkar exploited the fame associated with the highest civilian award for "earning money by endorsing commercial products" and therefore it should be taken away. But the division bench of Justices Rajendra Menon and S K Gupta dismissed the petition, saying it was not maintainable. Naswah may approach the Union Government with his demand if he wishes so, the court said. He should return the award on moral ground or otherwise it should be revoked, Naswah contended.(PTI) (10/08/2015) -
