Asian Markets
Asian markets started Wednesday on a positive note, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbing 1% a day after hitting a record high and the Topix up 0.72% by early trade in Singapore. South Korea also saw gains, as the Kospi rose 1.07% and the Kosdaq added 0.88%, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 inched up 0.29%.
US markets
US markets hit new record highs on Tuesday after softer-than-expected inflation data boosted hopes of a Federal Reserve rate cut next month. The S&P 500 gained 1.13% to 6,445.76, the Nasdaq jumped 1.39% to 21,681.90, and the Dow Jones climbed 483 points, or 1.10%, to 44,458.61.
US dollar
The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was trading 0.02% down at 98.06 on Wednesday morning. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. The rupee appreciated 0.05% to close at 87.71 to the dollar on August 12.
Crude Oil
Oil prices were mixed in early Wednesday trade, with WTI crude edging down 0.04% to $63.13 a barrel, while Brent crude rose slightly by 0.06% to $66.16.
FII, DII data
FPIs pulled out Rs 3,399 crore from Indian equities on August 12, while DIIs stepped in as net buyers, purchasing shares worth Rs 3,508 crore, NSE’s provisional data showed.
Gold rate today
Gold prices were lower in early Wednesday’s trade. As per Goodreturns, today, 10 grams of 24-carat gold rate today is Rs 1,01,390, while 22-carat gold costs Rs 92,740. For those preferring 18-carat gold, the price is Rs 76,040 for the same weight.
Top sectors in Tuesday’s trade
Aquaculture stocks topped the sectoral chart on August 12 with a 2.48% jump in market value, while automobiles gained 0.83% and transport rose 0.74%. The non-alcoholic beverages segment also saw a modest uptick of 0.71%.
