YouTube is also entering the generative artificial intelligence race with the introduction of new features for its premium subscribers. These features include a conversational tool and a comments summarisation feature. They will be available through YouTube’s experiment hub at youtube.com/new on an opt-in basis.
The conversational tool, set to launch in the coming weeks, is designed to include interaction and enhance the viewing experience. It uses LLM to answer user questions and provide recommendations about YouTube content. Users can ask questions about the video they’re currently watching or request similar content recommendations without interrupting video playback.

Initially, this feature will be available in the U.S. and on Android devices via a new “Ask” option on video watch pages. It’s an opt-in test for YouTube Premium members, but it won’t be available on every video immediately. The tool is currently being tested with a select group of users and will be made available to YouTube Premium members in the coming weeks.
The comments summariser leverages AI to organize discussions in large comment sections under videos. It allows viewers to catch up on key topics without reading through all comments. YouTube believes this feature can benefit creators by helping them understand their subscribers’ discussions and find inspiration for new videos. Creators can also delete comments under specific topics.

The summarization feature is currently available only in English and is based on published comments, excluding those under review, containing blocked words, or from blocked users.
YouTube plans to continue testing these features over the next few weeks and months, collecting feedback from users to improve their functionality.
YouTube acknowledges that these features are experimental, and may need refinement. They aim to start small, with limited availability, and actively seek user feedback through the tools themselves.
