WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, is taking a major step towards enhancing user customisation with its latest Android beta update. According to a recent report by WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp beta version 2.24.18.6 now includes a theme feature that allows users to select and adjust the main colour of the app’s interface.
This new feature aims to give users greater control over the app’s appearance. The update introduces the ability to change the primary branding colour of WhatsApp, moving away from the traditional green that now.
For users of the light theme, the familiar green will be replaced by black, rendering a minimalist look to the app. Meanwhile, those who prefer the dark theme will see the main colour switch to white.
The implementation of this feature reflects WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to refresh the app’s visual design while offering users more options for personalisation. The current Android beta does not yet include the broader set of colour options that have been reported for the iOS version, there is potential for these features to be integrated into future Android updates.
Separately, WhatsApp is also said to be working on enhancing its security features with a new update that will allow users to protect their usernames with a PIN lock. According to WABetaInfo, this feature is set to be included in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.18.2.
This update aims to fortify user privacy by enabling a PIN protection option for WhatsApp usernames. Previously, WhatsApp was working on a ‘username’ feature similar to those found on platforms like Discord, where users can choose a display name that differs from their real identity. With the introduction of PIN protection, users will be able to protect their chosen username with an additional blanket of security.
