On completing 20 years, Sundar Pichai posted a short and overwhelming note on completing two decades in the same company, Google. In his post, he took his users a walkthrough of his journey over the past 20 years.
“April 26, 2004 was my first day at Google. A lot has changed since then – technology, the number of people who use our products… my hair. What hasn’t changed – the thrill I get from working at this amazing company. 20 years in, I’m still feeling lucky,” Sundar Pichai posted on his Instagram.
In response to the post “I cannot decide which achievement is greater, 20 years in all the technological improvements you’ve brought or the fact that you haven’t gone bald after 20 years in tech,” joked an Instagram user. Another instagram user added “Your hair decreased, but Google’s revenue increased.”
What has changed till now?
Recent news circulated that Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai recently admitted that while he had identified the potential and rise of AI years ago, he was surprised by the swift public interest and adoption of the technology. He explained that in the last few years the rise of generative AI has taken the tech world by storm, and even Google was caught off guard by its sudden popularity.
In response to ChatGPT’s popularity, Pichai reportedly issued a “code red” within the company. Pichai said that while he envisioned AI as an important part of the future and society adopting artificial intelligence in tech, he had a different sense of the trajectory in mind and was surprised by the sudden popularity of ChatGPT.
During the speech at an event at Stanford University, in response, Pichai issued an emergency request to Google, suggesting Google to add on resources into its AI development. Experts suggest that Pichai also suggested bringing back the company’s co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, to improve the product efforts.
The road ahead!
The post is expected to have accumulated over 75,000 likes and the number seems to be only increasing. The share has further collected tons of comments from people. A few wrote “congratulations” to share their reactions to Pichai’s post. “Two decades of unwavering dedication, twenty years of monumental triumphs, and a legacy of unparalleled excellence,” said a third. “Epitome of excellence, I love you, my role model,” a fourth concluded.
Furthermore, in 2023 Google had announced that AI technology will be incorporated into Gmail, with a “Help Me Write” option. This option is expected to create detailed replies to emails in seconds. In addition to this he also added a tool for photos called “Magic Editor” that can automatically edit pictures.
