Xiaomi launched the Redmi 14C 5G smartphone in India today. The 14C reiterates its commitment to making 5G more accessible to the masses, a journey that saw a fresh jump start late last year with the Redmi A4. The Redmi 14C keeps a lot of the same hardware and adds a bit more power and efficiency to it, for those who might want such a proposition. In fact, it won’t be wrong to call it the Redmi A4 5G Pro.
Xiaomi Redmi 14C 5G: India price and availability
The Redmi 14C comes in a choice of 4/64GB, 4/128GB, and 6/128GB at Rs 9,999, Rs 10,999, and Rs 11,999, respectively. General availability is pegged for January 10 across Xiaomi retail, online, Amazon, and Flipkart starting 12 noon.

The biggest reason to get the Redmi 14C 5G over the A4, is the processor. While the A4 has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4S Gen 2, the 14C gets the slightly more powerful Snapdragon 4 Gen 2. There are two big benefits. One is of course more power and efficiency. The other advantage is the faster modem allowing for a theoretical 2.5 Gbps download speeds, across SA (standalone) and NSA (non standalone) 5G networks from Jio and Airtel. If you can pitch in a little extra, you can also get more RAM—6GB versus 4GB.

The only other difference that we can make out is the selfie camera. The 14C has a slightly better 8-megapixel front camera compared to the A4’s 5MP.
The design itself isn’t a big refresh except that it comes in a new hero starlight blue colour to justify Xiaomi’s claim of a brand new “starlight” aesthetic. It’s just a fancier Redmi A4. The catch is that this variant—and only this variant—has a plastic back. The other variants—stardust purple and stargaze black—are made of glass. The reasoning—per Xiaomi—is that the pattern was impossible to pull off on glass. Possibly at this price point, it would have incurred more cost.
Moving on, the Redmi 14C is also a big phone, much like the Redmi A4. The screen is quite substantial at 6.88-inch. It is LCD. The resolution is only 720p though refresh rate is 120 Hz, still a novelty for most budget phones like these. Screen protection isn’t advertised. It’s all same as the A4. The battery capacity, too, is a do-over at 5160 mAh. Charging is capped at 18W but you get a 33W charger in the box. For photography, the phone has a single 50-megapixel f/1.8 camera that’s surprisingly capable.
The rest of the package includes: single speaker with headphone jack, dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and side-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometrics. Like the A4, the Redmi 14C also has a virtual proximity sensor, only. Running the show is Xiaomi HyperOS based on Android 14.
If the Redmi A4 5G caught your attention, the Redmi 14C 5G is a no-brainer. For a few thousand more, you’re getting enough power and future proofing to go the extra mile for you, but not enough that it would cannibalise, say the Redmi 13 5G, or Redmi 14 5G, as and when it’s coming.
