The OnePlus Smartwatch, introduced in 2021, did not achieve the same level of recognition as its counterparts from Apple or Samsung. Despite featuring an appealing design and boasting impressive battery life, the OnePlus Watch struggled to receive widespread acclaim. It was criticised for being more of a fitness tracker than a full-fledged smartwatch. The proprietary RTOS software it ran lacked many things that we see in a modern smartwatch.
OnePlus could therefore be planning to change things this time
Popular leaker Max Jambor has shared information hinting at the arrival of a round-shaped OnePlus Watch in 2024. According to Jambor, the “OnePlus Watch 2 will be better.”
Jambor’s speculations are similar to what another leaker going by the handle @realMlgmXyysd said last month. The tipster claimed that the device was codenamed “star” and could feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor and a BES 2700 chipset, along with a round display boasting a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels. It is said to offer “fist clench gestures.”
According to this leaker, this shift to round faces could be due to Google’s tendency to complicate matters for those making square-shaped watches. This means that OnePlus Watch 2 might abandon its initial underdeveloped RTOS software in favour of something more familiar. The leaked specs mention ColorOS for Watch 6.0 as the operating system, based on Android 11 Go.
