At the NVIDIA AI Summit held at the Jio World Centre, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, and Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, explored the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) for India. Their discussion revolved around the collaboration to position India as a hub for deep technology.

Ambani welcomed Huang to Mumbai, highlighting India’s youthful population, with an average age below 35, as a critical asset for technological advancement. He stated, “India has become an innovation hub for the world,” noting growth in sectors like space research and pharmaceuticals.

The conversation focused on the necessity of robust digital infrastructure, which Jio has significantly enhanced. Ambani noted that Jio’s efforts have transformed India’s data landscape, making it a leader in digital connectivity.

Huang discussed NVIDIA’s commitment to upskilling Indian IT professionals, with over 200,000 trained in AI thus far. He emphasized that India possesses the essential components for a thriving AI ecosystem: vast data, technology, and a large user base.

A significant announcement from the summit was the partnership between Reliance and NVIDIA to build AI infrastructure in India. Huang stressed the importance of India manufacturing its own AI capabilities rather than outsourcing. “India should not just export flour to import bread; we should add value to our data ourselves,” he stated.

Ambani reinforced this vision, highlighting the need for accessible AI technology. He committed to ensuring that AI remains affordable for all citizens, similar to how Jio made data accessible. “We are building infrastructure so that to use AI, our customers don’t have to change their phones or computers,” he explained. The leaders concluded by expressing optimism about India’s future in the AI landscape, asserting that their collaboration could elevate the country on the global stage.
