Motorola today launched the Moto Razr 50 Ultra, its next-generation flip-style foldable, in China. The Razr 50 Ultra’s main USP is its large 4-inch cover display, which is the biggest on a device of its class at the time of writing. The screen is high-quality, too, being LTPO and all with a maximum refresh rate of 165Hz.

Joining the Moto Razr 50 Ultra is the relatively more affordable Moto Razr 50, though even this one comes with a respectable 3.6-inch cover display. Both phones are a considerable upgrade to their predecessors on the cover display front. Motorola already allows a large set of apps to work natively on the cover screen, something you can’t say about competing products like say the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 (you can only do it through a workaround which is to install Samsung’s Good Lock app.

The Razr 50 Ultra has a 6.9-inch inner folding pOLED display with a 1080p resolution and up to 165Hz refresh rate. The panel can top 3,000 nits and supports Dolby Visioj content. A hole punch cutout at the centre houses a 32-megapixel selfie camera. While on the back, the phone has a dual camera setup with a 50-megapixel f/1.7 wide and another 50-megapixel 2x telephoto.

Powering the Moto Razr 50 Ultra is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor and a 4,000mAh battery with 44W fast wired and 15W wireless charging. Running the show is Motorola’s MyUX software with Android 14. The Razr 50 Ultra has a chassis made of a combination of vegan leather and 6000 series aluminium. The foldable is IPX8 rated.

The Razr 50 has the same inner folding display with 32-megapixel selfie camera as the Razr 50 Ultra. It has the same primary rear camera but swaps the telephoto for a 13-megapixel f/2.2 ultra wide. The Razr 50 is the first phone to come powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300X, which apparently has been created specifically for fonding devices. The battery here is 4,200mAh with 30W wired and 15W wireless charging support.

Moto Razr 50, Razr 50 Ultra prices

The Razr 50 starts at CNY 3,699 (roughly Rs 42,500) for 8GB/256GB. The Razr 50 Ultra starts at CNY 5,699 (roughly Rs 65,500) for 12GB/256GB.

The Moto Razr 50 Ultra and Razr 50 won’t remain exclusive to China for long. Motorola has confirmed the devices are coming to India, though the exact launch date is yet to be revealed. The Moto Razr 50 Ultra will compete with Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6.
