In a strategic move following the launch of its latest Pixel 9 series, Google has significantly reduced the prices of its previous-generation Pixel phones in India. The price cuts span across the entire Pixel lineup, from the budget-friendly Pixel 7a and Pixel 8a to the flagship Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro models. Notably, the Pixel 8, which is now manufactured in India, also benefits from a price reduction.
Google’s decision to lower prices comes in the wake of the Indian government’s recent reduction of import duties on smartphones, slashing the rate from 20 percent to 15 percent. This reduction likely played a role in the new pricing strategy. Additionally, with the arrival of the Pixel 9 series, Google is aligning its pricing to make room for the new models—a common practice in the tech industry.
Updated prices: Pixel phones get more affordable
The Pixel 8, which previously retailed at Rs 75,999 for the 128 GB variant, now has a new price of Rs 71,999—a Rs 4,000 drop. The 256 GB variant is now available at Rs 77,999, down from Rs 82,999, making Rs 5,000 cheaper. The premium Pixel 8 Pro model has seen an even steeper cut; the 128 GB model is now priced at Rs 99,999, reduced from Rs 1,06,999, while the 256 GB variant is now Rs 1,06,999, down from Rs 1,13,999—a reduction of Rs 7,000.
For more budget-conscious buyers, the Pixel 8a and Pixel 7a have also become more affordable. The Pixel 8a (128 GB) is now priced at Rs 49,999, down from Rs 52,999, while the 256 GB version is available for Rs 56,999, reduced from Rs 59,999. Meanwhile, the Pixel 7a (128 GB) is now priced at Rs 41,999, a reduction of Rs 2,000 from its previous price of Rs 43,999.
