Microsoft-owned LinkedIn has announced the addition of 10 new languages to its platform. This update introduces Vietnamese, Persian, Greek, Hebrew, Finnish, and Hungarian, along with four Indian languages – Bengali, Marathi, Punjabi, and Telugu. With the existing support for Hindi, LinkedIn now accommodates a total of five Indian languages and 26 languages in total.

How to change language on LinkedIn

To change the language on LinkedIn, go to ‘Settings & Privacy’ or click the ‘Language’ link in the footer of the page. While the new language options will modify certain interface elements, it’s important to note that not all languages are available for LinkedIn Ads, products, customer service, or the mobile app.

LinkedIn has also been in the news for another reason. The platform recently implemented a new privacy setting that automatically opts users into allowing their account data to be used for training generative AI models. This change, reported by 404Media, was made without explicit user consent. The updated privacy policy now clarifies that personal data may be utilised to improve and develop various services, including AI models.

The revised policy states: “We may use your personal data to improve, develop, and provide products and Services, develop and train artificial intelligence (AI) models, develop, provide, and personalize our Services, and gain insights with the help of AI, automated systems, and inferences.”” This move aligns with LinkedIn’s efforts to integrate generative AI into features like writing assistance.

For users concerned about their data being used in this manner, LinkedIn has provided an opt-out option. By navigating to the Data Privacy tab in their account settings, users can disable the “Data for Generative AI Improvement” toggle. It’s important to note, however, LinkedIn explicitly says that opting out won’t affect any training that has already occurred.

LinkedIn assures users that it employs “privacy-enhancing technologies” to redact personal data from its training datasets. Additionally, the company does not use data from individuals residing in the EU, EEA, or Switzerland for training its AI models.
