Thieves in London have put out their choices in the open, stealing only iPhones while strictly avoiding Samsung phones. This new trend has come to light after several people have shared the stories of them being mugged; coincidentally, all of them had an iPhone. Interestingly, if people had a Samsung device with them, they were most likely returned their phones.

Therefore, it would not be incorrect to say that if an individual lives in London using a Samsung smartphone. Thieves do not consider mugging him/her is worth the effort. According to a London-centric, a 32-year-old Londoner experienced this real hand near a Royal Mail depot in South London when a group of eight men surrounded him. They started pushing him, hitting him and grabbing everything he had, including his phone.
Interestingly, just as the group started running away, one of them turned back to him and said ‘Don’t want no Samsung’. Sam therefore walked away with nothing but a feeling of being thankful for not having an iPhone.

Instances of thieves avoiding Samsung Smartphones

Sam is not the only one. Mark, who works in Hackney, had his Samsung Galaxy taken by a thief on an e-bike. He tried to run after him, but quickly realised there was no point. Then something unexpected happened. The thief stopped, looked at the phone, placed it gently on the ground and rode off. The device was not damaged, but Mark admitted that the rejection stung more than the theft attempt.

Some situations are almost funny. One Londoner, Simon, was nearly caught in a scam that began with a friendly chat about music. The moment the man saw Simon’s Samsung Galaxy, he lost interest. He simply walked away and said, “Phone’s dead, innit.”

It is anecdotes like these that keep on happening again and again with people around the world, especially London. Many individuals are noticing the same thing and walking away with either the dejected feeling of not having an iPhone or being thankful for carrying a Samsung.

What do the cybersecurity experts say?

Well, cybersecurity expert Jake Moore says the reason is simple. iPhones have a much higher resale value compared to Androids. Additionally, iPhones can be more easily formatted and sold which makes them more attractive to organised criminal groups that depend on quick sales. Importantly, the resale value is what makes more sense for a thief since both Android smartphones and iPhones are equally secure. Therefore, it can’t be said that one of them is easier to unlock. It is just about which brings in more money when it’s sold.
