Stage Manager made its debut with iPadOS 16, initially restricted to iPads powered by the M1 chip or later. However, following user feedback, Apple broadened support with the release of iPadOS 16.1 to include iPad Pro models equipped with A12X and A12Z chips.

Stage Manager allows users to group multiple app windows across different workspaces, enabling a cleaner and more efficient multitasking setup. In iPadOS 26, you can activate Stage Manager through the Settings app. While in this mode, apps continue to support the latest windowing enhancements, including the new “traffic light” window controls for managing apps.
