Apple releasing iOS 17 and iPadOS 17: Apple’s iOS 17, the most anticipated software update of the year, is finally set to roll out today, September 18, 2023. The update, first introduced at WWDC June 2023, brings a host of new features and improvements to the iPhone, including a redesigned lock screen, new Lockdown mode, and more features for Messages and FaceTime.
If you’re eagerly waiting to get your hands on the latest and greatest from Apple, here’s how to ready your phone for the iOS 17 update:
Back up your iPhone. This is always a good idea before installing any major software update, but it’s especially important for iOS 17, as it’s the biggest update of the year. You can back up your iPhone to iCloud or to your computer.
Make sure you have enough storage space. iOS 17 requires free storage space to install. You can check your available storage space by going to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
Plug your iPhone into a power source. It’s best to install iOS 17 while your iPhone is plugged in, in case the update takes longer than expected to install. Make sure your phone is up to update and atleast 60 per cent charge before you install the update.

Connect to a Wi-Fi network. iOS 17 is a large file, so it’s best to download it over Wi-Fi to avoid using up your cellular data. Once you’ve followed these steps, you’re ready to install iOS 17. To do so, go to Settings > General > Software Update. If the update is available, you’ll see a red notification badge next to the Software Update option. Tap on Software Update and then tap on Download and Install.
The installation process may take a few minutes. Once the update is installed, your iPhone will restart and you’ll be able to start using the new features of iOS 17.

iOS 17 brings several notable features and improvements, these are:
Live voicemail: This feature transcribes voicemail messages right there on your iPhone screen. This makes it easy to decide if you’d like to pick up a call while someone is leaving a message without having to call them back.
Standby mode: Apple has introduced a new landscape standby mode for the iPhone lock screen this year. From analog clock to photo display, just put your iPhone in horizontal position and the standby mode will activate itself.
New Check in update: The Check in in iOS 17 now lets people you frequently message to know that you’ve arrived somewhere safely. Just start and end Check in when you start and reach a destination, It will automatically let your people know your status of travel.
Contact posters: iOS 17 brings customisable Contact Posters to the Phone app, so users can choose what their contacts see when they call.
NameDrop: With NameDrop, users can share contact number, email addresses and even the contact poster with someone else simply by bringing both iPhones close together or holding Apple Watch closer.
Eligible phones: iOS 17 will be available for iPhone 15 series, iPhone 14 Series, iPhone 13 Series, iPhone 12 Series, iPhone 11 Series, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone SE 2020., iPhone SE 2022.
iOS 17 roll out India timing: The update will roll out today at 10:30PM IST.
