As the new president & MD of Dell Technologies India, Manish Gupta has set in motion an aggressive growth strategy—across cloud, on-premises, AI PCs and advanced data centre solutions. These innovations aim to help client organisations to adopt AI, drive faster insights, improve efficiency and accelerate their growth. “India is a crucial market for Dell, both in its size and future growth potential. It presents a substantial addressable market for our technology solutions,” Gupta tells Sudhir Chowdhary, while discussing Dell’s India plans. Excerpts:
What matters most now that you are at the helm of affairs?
It is an honour to step into this role at a time when India stands at such an inflection point in its digital journey. I am excited to see how the decade ahead will be about shaping intelligence, driving value creation, and strengthening India’s position on the global technology stage. Our vision is clear: to evolve from being the backbone of India’s digital infrastructure to becoming the brain of its digital future. This means enabling enterprises to move beyond digitisation toward intelligence-driven growth—embedding AI into operations, turning data into insights, and driving faster, smarter outcomes.
How do you see India’s role evolving in the global tech ecosystem?
India’s rise as a global technology leader is powered by strong digital public infrastructure, ambitious initiatives like Digital India and the IndiaAI Mission and enterprises scaling AI. Technology is no longer just a tool to boost efficiency but the engine of innovation and competitiveness. Dell Technologies, with its broadest portfolio is enabling customers to operationalise AI, unlock data value and build resilient digital infrastructure helping accelerate India’s digital economy today and into the future.
How is Dell India contributing to its parent company’s global success?
Dell Technologies India has evolved into a strategic hub that strengthens global operations through contributions in R&D, engineering, services and customer innovation. Our teams here are fully integrated into Dell’s worldwide innovation cycle, delivering solutions that range from core product development to advanced AI platforms. At the same time, we continue to play a key role in building and strengthening India’s digital backbone—the foundation on which economic and social transformation is being built. From mission-critical platforms in banking, telecom, logistics, and the public sector to secure enterprise solutions, Dell enables organisations to innovate with confidence. This dual role driving global competitiveness while building resilient infrastructure locally positions Dell India as both a contributor to innovation and a trusted partner in technology revolution.
Sovereign AI is emerging as a key priority. Does Dell have a role to play here?
Nations are prioritising AI sovereignty to secure data, align ethics with local norms, and foster homegrown innovation. Achieving this requires the right infrastructure to balance data security, regulatory compliance, and technological advantage. Sovereign AI enables organisations to maintain control over their data, models, and outcomes while aligning with national regulations.
Dell plays a key role by delivering secure and scalable AI infrastructure that supports India’s vision of building sovereign compute clusters and AI models. For example, our work with Zoho demonstrates how the Dell AI Factory is powering their proprietary AI stack, enabling the development of advanced models while ensuring data sovereignty and regulatory compliance. We are not just delivering infrastructure – but helping shape India’s innovation-led AI future.
Don’t you feel AI adoption needs to be faster, much simpler?
The conversation in India has shifted from “why AI” to “how to scale AI responsibly.” We are enabling organisations to operationalise AI by simplifying deployment and ensuring it delivers measurable business outcomes. Our AI-ready portfolio helps enterprises move beyond experimentation into production at scale. The Dell AI Factory provides a full-stack, enterprise-grade platform that is secure and optimised for scale powered by our partnerships with Nvidia, AMD, and others. Already trusted by over 3,000 customers globally, it is helping organisations accelerate innovation, it drives innovation, efficiency and better customer experiences.
Looking ahead, what do you see as the biggest opportunities in the tech ecosystem?
The next technology wave—AI, quantum computing, semiconductors and robotics, are areas where India has both ambition and momentum. For Dell, the opportunity lies in enabling enterprises to harness these technologies responsibly and at scale. In India, our focus will remain on building resilient digital infrastructure, accelerating AI adoption and driving innovation that supports growth. Dell will continue to play a key role in strengthening India’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.
