Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI—the company behind ChatGPT—stated that the newest iteration of its large language model, GPT-5, has the potential to assist solo entrepreneurs in managing all aspects of a startup. He added that GPT-5 could assist founders by managing customer service, drafting marketing and communication strategies, and even reviewing legal paperwork.
“You could build an entire startup way more efficiently than you ever could before. The fact that as a 25-year-old in India or anywhere else, maybe with a couple of friends, maybe just by yourself, you could use GPT5 to help you write the software for a product much more efficiently,” Altman shared this during the most recent episode of Nikhil Kamath’s podcast, People by WTF.
Excelling with the latest AI tools is crucial:
During his discussion with Nikhil Kamath, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman highlighted that excelling with the latest AI tools is crucial. He explained that in today’s fast-moving tech environment, the best way to stay competitive is to develop deep expertise in leveraging these cutting-edge AI systems.
“I think the most important thing to study is just getting really good at using the new AI tools,” he noted.
“Right now learning how to use AI tools is probably the most important specific hard skill to learn and the difference between people who are really good at really AI native and think of everything in terms of those tools and don’t is huge.”
India’s influence on the future of AI:
When Nikhil Kamath asked about India’s influence on the future of AI, Sam Altman noted that India is currently OpenAI’s second-largest market globally and has the potential to become the largest. He highlighted that insights from Indian users—covering areas like language compatibility, cost-effectiveness, and accessibility—have played a significant role in guiding OpenAI’s product development.
Reflecting on the country’s AI potential, Altman said, “If there is one large society in the world that seems most enthusiastic to transform with AI right now, it’s India. The excitement, the embrace of AI…the energy is incredible.” For India, Sam highlights, the real opportunity lies in moving from consumption to global creation, building tools, platforms, and companies the rest of the world will use.
