Google Gemini 3 Pro, Nano Banana Pro free usage limits update: Check how many prompts you can use

Google stated that the high engagement rates, particularly involving multimodal inputs and sophisticated reasoning prompts, were placing an unmanageable strain on its AI infrastructure.

The Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro models are seeing a lot of popularity, and hence, Google has had to intervene to make it easy on its servers. Within days of releasing the latest update to Gemini, Google has now announced a major adjustment to the free usage limits for its latest generation of AI models, citing “overwhelming demand” from users. The new limits are effective immediately for all free-tier users in the United States.

The announcement affects the number of daily prompts users can submit to the highly advanced models, which Google launched to compete with industry leaders like ChatGPT and Grok in large language model performance.

Under the previous policy, free-tier users were granted a decent daily allowance for engaging with the new models. However, the surge in popularity and complex queries has forced Google to implement stricter quotas to ensure system stability and fair access for all users. The new limits are as follows:

Gemini 3 Pro: The daily usage limit for this reasoning model has been reduced to 30 free prompts per day. This marks a major cut from the prior allowance, reflecting the model’s high computational cost.

Nano Banana Pro: The more lightweight and mobile-optimised model has also seen its daily limit lowered to 50 free prompts per day.

Google stated that the high engagement rates, particularly involving multimodal inputs and sophisticated reasoning prompts, were placing an unmanageable strain on its AI infrastructure.

Will the modified limits affect free users?

The reduction in free usage is expected to encourage heavy users to migrate to paid subscription tiers, which offer significantly higher or unlimited daily usage, priority access, and access to the even more powerful Gemini 3 Ultra model.

For casual and everyday users, the new caps may require a more conservative use of the models, prompting them to prioritise their most complex or critical queries. Google has assured users that it will continue to monitor usage patterns and may adjust the limits in the future to reflect resource availability and user demand.

Note that the Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro models are available via the Google Gemini app on Android and iOS. PC users can access these models by visiting the Gemini web app.
