Flipkart has jumped the gun, spilling the beans on Google’s next big launch ahead of schedule. The Walmart-owned e-retail platform has revealed the unannounced Pixel 9 Pro XL confirming the “XL” model before its high-profile Made by Google launch event. It’s a big deal because Google itself hasn’t made the phone public yet. All of its marketing material almost exclusively mentions the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
The Pixel 9 has for long been expected to come in two variants: a standard Pixel 9 and a Pixel 9 Pro version to be available in two sizes—a larger 6.8-inch (Pixel 9 Pro XL) model and a smaller 6.3-inch (Pixel 9 Pro) variant. This is the first time Google will offer Pro features in multiple sizes. Both models will reportedly come with flat edges and a rounded camera module.
Leaked specs indicate that the Pixel 9 will boast of the new Google G4 Tensor chip, 12GB of RAM, and a 6.3-inch display. The Pro models will step up with 16GB of RAM and options for up to 1TB of storage. On the camera front, the Pixel 9 is expected to come with a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 48MP ultrawide, and another 10.5MP selfie camera. The Pro models are said to include a 50MP main, 48MP ultrawide, 48MP telephoto, and a 42MP front-facing camera.
Google is also expected to introduce a satellite SOS feature and ultrasonic fingerprint sensors in these phones.
Joining the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL will be the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, successor to last year’s original Pixel Fold. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will reportedly feature a taller and slimmer design on similar lines as the OnePlus Open. The foldable phone is expected to have a 6.3-inch cover display and a larger 8-inch inner folding screen, compared to the 5.8-inch outer and 7.6-inch inner displays on its predecessor. It is also expected to be thinner than the previous model, measuring 5.1mm when unfolded and 10.5mm when folded.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is also likely to get the G4 Tensor chip, 16GB of RAM, and a camera setup with a 48MP main camera, 10.5MP ultrawide lens, and 10.8MP telephoto sensor.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold has already been confirmed to launch in India on August 14. The Flipkart reveal confirms the Pixel 9 Pro XL, too. The question remains if the vanilla Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro will also make their way to the country alongside. Watch this space for more details.
