Apple is preparing to launch iOS 19, the next big software upgrade for iPhones, and it’s expected to be one of the most impactful updates in recent years. The official announcement is slated for June 9 at WWDC 2025, where the company is likely to showcase a redesigned interface, a more intelligent Siri, and a host of new functionalities.

Floating Tab Bar & visionOS-Inspired Design in iOS 19
Apple’s upcoming iOS 19 is expected to feature a major visual overhaul inspired by the design language of visionOS—the interface used on the Apple Vision Pro headset.
According to Jon Prosser from Front Page Tech, iOS 19 will adopt a sleek, glass-like aesthetic. This includes increased translucency in menus, buttons, and interface components, giving the system a more layered, futuristic appearance. Additionally, users can expect rounder app icons and a redesigned floating tab bar in native Apple applications.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has echoed similar expectations, noting that iOS 19’s visual refresh may represent the most significant UI shift since the launch of iOS 7.
Encrypted RCS Messaging Coming to iOS
Apple recently confirmed plans to integrate end-to-end encrypted messaging for RCS (Rich Communication Services) within the Messages app, targeting a rollout in upcoming software releases—including iOS 19, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS.
This move implies that Apple will embrace the RCS Universal Profile 3.0 standard. In addition to encryption, this version introduces several modern messaging features akin to iMessage, expanding upon version 2.7, while iOS 18 currently supports only version 2.4.
Live Speech Translation via AirPods
Select AirPods models are set to receive a live translation upgrade with the arrival of iOS 19 and new firmware updates, according to Gurman.
Here’s how the feature will work: When someone speaks in a foreign language, say Spanish, the iPhone will translate the speech and stream it in real-time to the AirPods in English. Simultaneously, the iPhone will convert the English speaker’s response into Spanish, delivering the translation through the device’s speaker.
Health App Gets Smarter and More Interactive
A redesigned Health app is expected to be introduced, possibly in iOS 19.4, featuring a powerful AI-driven health coaching system.
This personalized wellness assistant will offer actionable insights and tips, supported by educational videos from medical professionals. For instance, if your Apple Watch identifies irregular heart rate patterns, the app might show a video explaining heart disease risks and suggest lifestyle adjustments.
Food tracking is also being integrated more deeply, potentially placing the app in competition with popular platforms like MyFitnessPal, as reported by Gurman.
