Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has stated that the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) will inevitably lead to a reduction in certain job roles as tasks become automated. However, Jassy also emphasised that this technological transformation will also pave the way for new opportunities, particularly in emerging fields like AI development and robotics, while making existing jobs more engaging.
In recent comments and a memo to employees, Jassy affirmed that while AI will lead to “fewer people doing some of the jobs that the technology actually starts to automate,” it will also free employees from “rote work” and elevate the nature of their responsibilities, making “all our jobs more interesting.”
He underscored the importance of adapting to this shift, advising Amazon staff to “be curious about AI, educate yourself, attend workshops and take trainings, use and experiment with AI whenever you can.”
Amazon to replace humans with AI for efficiency
The Amazon chief had previously communicated internally that the company’s corporate workforce is expected to see a reduction in the coming years as Amazon extensively integrates AI tools and agents across its operations, aiming for significant efficiency gains.
This sentiment aligns with a broader trend observed across the tech industry, where other major firms like Salesforce and online lender Klarna have also reported workforce shifts and efficiency improvements attributed to AI adoption. Jassy believes that those who embrace this change and become proficient in AI will be well-positioned for high impact within the evolving company landscape.
