Businessman Sunjay Kapur, former husband of actor Karisma Kapoor and a prominent entrepreneur, passed away unexpectedly in the United Kingdom a few days ago. He was 53. According to reports, Kapur was participating in a polo match in the UK when he reportedly swallowed a bee, triggering a heart attack that led to his sudden demise. The incident has left both his family and the broader polo community in shock and mourning.
In a touching tribute, Kapur’s polo team, the SUJÁN Indian Tigers, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, commemorating their teammate and friend. The post featured a recent photograph of Kapur, smiling on the polo field with teammate Jaisal Singh, taken just days before the tragedy.
“Today we play the final of the Cartier Trophy in the memory of our dear friend Sunjay Kapur, who tragically passed away on the field a few days ago,” the SUJÁN Indian Tigers wrote. “Our Captain and Patron, Jaisal Singh, will mount up with the team to observe a minute’s silence in honour of his dear old friend Sunjay, and then sit out as a mark of respect.”
The post added, “This photograph of Sunjay and Jaisal was taken moments before they mounted up to play the semi-finals a few days ago. RIP Sunjay; you will be missed — your tireless enthusiasm and patronage will be remembered forever by the entire polo community.”

Kapur, a U.S. citizen, was residing in London at the time of his passing. Arrangements to repatriate his body to India are underway, but legal and procedural formalities are reportedly causing delays.
Speaking to NDTV, Kapur’s father-in-law Ashok Sachdev confirmed that the funeral will take place in Delhi. “The postmortem is currently underway. Once the paperwork is complete, the body will be brought to India for the last rites,” he said.
Sunjay Kapur is survived by his wife, Priya Sachdev, and their son Azarius. He also had two children with Karisma Kapoor from their previous marriage. Known for his deep involvement in both business and polo, Kapur’s death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across social and sporting circles.
