Novak Djokovic, one of the greatest tennis players of all time, has a simple message—wellness is the secret behind his long and successful career. As he works toward winning his 25th Grand Slam title, the 38-year-old star says that looking after both his body and mind is what keeps him going strong.
In a recent conversation with podcaster and digital content creator Ben Johnson, Djokovic opened up about his everyday routine, which includes everything from gratitude and meditation to smoothies and sea swimming.
Novak Djokovic’s morning starts with gratitude
Djokovic doesn’t begin his day by checking his phone or jumping straight into training. Instead, he starts with a quiet moment. “The very moment I wake up is always a prayer. It’s always an expression of gratitude, first of all, to be alive, to have another chance to live that day,” he shared.
Right after that, he hydrates with a special drink, lukewarm water mixed with lemon, a pinch of salt, and a hydration mix to restore minerals.
Breakfast is light but healthy. He often drinks smoothies made with fruits like berries and dates, along with superfoods like hemp seeds, maca powder, and blue spirulina. “I love dates, I can have dates all day,” he shared. He also adds a green powder made from seaweed.
Staying active is a daily habit
Djokovic doesn’t rely on coffee to stay energized. “I don’t take coffee. I would maybe drink a green tea once in a while,” he said.
Whether or not he has a tennis session, he stays active every day. His favourite activities include swimming in the sea, biking, hiking, running, and playing football, basketball, padel, or even ping pong. For Djokovic, movement is not just about fitness—it helps him stay calm and focused.
Ending the day with recovery: Ice baths to sauna sessions
After staying active all day, Djokovic ends with recovery. He uses ice baths and sauna sessions to relax his muscles and prepare his body for the next day. These help reduce soreness and keep his energy levels high.
This shows that for Djokovic, wellness isn’t a trend, it’s a way of life. And as he continues to play at the top level at 38, his healthy habits are clearly paying off.
