Last week marked a joyous occasion for the Murthy family as Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy and renowned author-philanthropist Sudha Murty welcomed their newest family member. Rohan Murty, the couple’s son, and his wife Aparna Krishnan celebrated the birth of their baby boy, adding another dimension to the Murthy legacy.
The newborn, named Ekagrah, entered the world on November 10 in Bengaluru. Reports suggest that both mother and son are in good health. Ekagrah is the third grandchild of Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty, who already share the joy of being grandparents to the two daughters of Akshata Murty.
The name Ekagrah, derived from Sanskrit, translates to “unwavering focus and determination.” The family drew inspiration from Arjuna’s “Ekagrah” in the Mahabharata, a term also found in the Bhagavad Gita’s sixth chapter, emphasizing yoga and meditation for self-realization.
Rohan Murty, 40, a computer scientist turned entrepreneur with a Ph.D. from Harvard University, founded Soroco. This data-based software firm aids organizations in transforming data into actionable insights, addressing work patterns across teams.
Aparna Krishnan, the mother of Ekagrah, previously served as General Manager of Operations at Soroco for over four years. Currently, she heads Murty Media, the producer of “Story Time with Sudha Amma,” an animated series on YouTube adapted from Sudha Murty’s children’s books.
The couple exchanged vows in 2019 in a Bengaluru ceremony attended by close family and friends, including Infosys co-founders Nandan Nilekani, Krish Gopalakrishnan, SD Shibulal, and K Dinesh, as well as Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw.
Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty’s expanded grand-family now includes Krishna and Anoushka, the daughters of Akshata Murty and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Sudha Murty, who has dedicated recent children’s books to these two young girls, continues to share her warmth and affection with her growing number of grandchildren.
