Angelina Jolie is preparing to say goodbye to her celebrated (and celebrity) Los Angeles house, where she has lived for nearly a decade. She purchased the mansion in 2017 and it served as her base due to custody arrangements with ex-husband Brad Pitt. As her twins Knox and Vivienne are set to turn 18 next year, the actress is now looking ahead to move out of the US.
A source confirmed to PEOPLE, “Angelina Jolie never wanted to live in L.A. full time. She didn’t have a choice because of the custody arrangement with Brad.”
The insider added, “She plans to relocate as soon as Knox and Viv turn 18 next year. She’s eyeing several locations abroad. She’ll be very happy when she’s able to leave Los Angeles.”
Inside Angelina Jolie’s LA mansion
Spanning approximately 11,000 square feet, the estate features six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, manicured gardens, and four fireplaces. The amenities include a wine cellar, a tea house, an outdoor pool bordered by cascading fountains, and panoramic views of the Griffith Observatory.
The house has not seen just Jolie as its big celebrity resident, there have been many others too. It was originally purchased by filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille in 1916 for less than USD 28,000. The property later expanded when DeMille acquired a neighbouring home that was once owned by Charlie Chaplin. With these two merged buildings, the grand estate that now stands in Los Feliz was built.
Life after moving out of Los Angeles
Angelina Jolie has been honest and candid about moving out of the United States, for more privacy and a slower life. Cambodia, where she adopted her eldest son Maddox, remains close to her heart, and it is expected that she might spend significant time there while also visiting relatives and friends in other countries.
Ahead of the sale, she is reportedly planning light renovations to enhance the property’s appeal. Given its historic value and prime location, the final selling price is expected to exceed her original investment. She bought the property for a whopping USD 24.5 million.
