‘Shape of You’ singer Ed Sheeran has been on his fitness journey for years now. Father of two, the 34-year-old is often seen collaborating with Bollywood stars like Arijit Singh, Diljit Dosanjh, and even Shah Rukh Khan. Known for his diverse set of skills, Sheeran revealed in a recent discussion with Andy Cohen, one his most long-desired fitness goal – to have ‘six pack abs’.
The dream of every fitness enthusiast is to flaunt those muscles and achieve the epitome of fitness aesthetic. However, as Sheeran pointed out, it was easier said than done. The singer’s fitness inspiration came from last year, when he realised he had “put on a load of weight.” He then decided to “hit the gym heavy, try and lose a stone.”
‘I’m gonna see how far I can take this’
Stretching your limits is one of the key reasons why muscle-builders hit the gym. From toning your body to appearing buff, it all depends on the gym goer’s goals. But the singer-songwriter had something else in mind.
“As I was doing that, I was like, ‘I’m gonna see how far I can take this,” Sheeran told the radio show host. Reiterating his dream to have a toned torso, the Brit explained that his lifestyle soon became a roadblock in the way. “I keep messing up,” he remarked, pointing out the occasional “couple of beers” he used to have. However, he confirmed that his fitness journey was on the right track now, “I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life.”
Quit smoking, lost weight
Ed Sheeran’s wife, Cherry Seaborn, revealed in December 2019 that when he quit smoking, he lost nearly 50 pounds, and diverted his attention to running.
Commenting on when he quit this habit, Sheeran explained that he stopped three years ago. He filled that time with exercise and exclaimed that he loved it. “I started doing it because when I stopped smoking, I was very aware that my lungs were so full of s— that I needed to clear them out.”
“There’s nothing like fresh air,” the ‘Sapphire’ artist added, explaining that why he preferred running over hitting the gym. He preferred trying out alternative means to stay active rather than being inside a gym for hours.
