Aamir Khan has returned to the silver screen after a three-year hiatus, and his latest release, Sitaare Zameen Par, is already making waves at the box office. Despite a modest start, the film gained significant momentum over the weekend, collecting Rs 59 crore in just three days.
According to data from Sacnilk, the film kicked off with an opening day collection of Rs 10 crore on Friday, June 20. However, it quickly picked up pace, earning Rs 20.2 crore on Saturday and registering a remarkable jump to Rs 29 crore on Sunday, June 22.
The weekend performance is being hailed as a strong indicator of the film’s growing appeal. “It is the first instance that a movie, which opened to around 10.50 crores net, went on to score 60 crores weekend, and this is a big positive sign for the film going forward,” Sacnilk noted in its analysis.
Positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth buzz have played a crucial role in the film’s box office surge. On Sunday, the Hindi version saw an average occupancy of 57.83% during afternoon shows. This climbed to 72.31% in the evening, before tapering off to 46.97% during the night screenings — a clear sign of steady interest throughout the day.
Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par features an ensemble cast including Genelia Deshmukh, Brijendra Kala, Dolly Ahluwalia, and introduces ten debutant actors who are neurodivergent — a casting decision that has been widely appreciated.
The film marks Aamir Khan’s much-anticipated comeback to cinema following his last release in 2022. With its heartwarming storyline and socially conscious themes, Sitaare Zameen Par seems set for a strong theatrical run. As it enters its crucial first week, all eyes are now on whether the film can sustain its momentum and join the Rs 100 crore club.
