OG Box Office Collection Day 6: The Pawan Kalyan action-thriller is making huge waves at the box office. With an opening day collection crossing Rs 90 crore, ‘They Call Him OG’ was off to a strong start. However, weekdays were not kind to this Tamil cinema record breaker as it saw a 71% decline on its opening Friday. On the first weekend, Pawan Kalyan’s OG movie made Rs 37 crore, and so far, the overall box office collection has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark worldwide.
The week opened with a further dip, with ‘They Call Him OG’ collecting Rs 7.4 crore on Monday. On Day 5, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, this Pawan Kalyan film grossed Rs 7.25 crore in India, bringing the total tally to Rs 154.85 crore, despite a 60% decline in ticket sales. As the Dussehra holiday approaches, the OG team speculates whether they can cross Rs 200 crore in domestic collections.
After it garnered huge praise from audiences online, Pawan Kalyan fans could not help but rave over his villain arc. Playing the character Ojas ‘OG’ Gambheera, he stars opposite Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi. As Hashmi makes headlines yet again with his comeback in Aryan Khan’s Ba***ds of Bollywood, both his performances have become fan favourites. ‘They Call Him OG’ also stars Priyanka Arul Mohan, Prakash Raj, Arjun Das, and Sriya Reddy, and has been praised for its strong female roles.
OG Box Office Day 6: Occupancy rates
With dipping ticket sales came a steady decline in occupancy rates, too. As theatres struggle to fill even 20%, the highest occupancy was observed in Warangal. The Telugu audience in Kakinada and Karimnagar also came to watch the action-thriller in decent numbers, above 30%. However, Pawan Kalyan’s OG failed to retain momentum in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi NCR. For the OG movie in Hindi, Kolkata and Lucknow became the hotspots as they drove audience to theatres in optimal numbers.
Upcoming releases, more competition
This Sujeeth directorial is set to face strong opposition from Bollywood’s ‘Sunny Sankari ki Tulsi Kumari’ releasing on October 2. Capturing a holiday weekend, the film stars actors like Varun Dhawan, Rohit Saraf, Janhvi Kapoor, and Sanya Malhotra.
A major release in the Telugu film industry this month will be Baahubali: The Epic, the much-awaited sequel in the franchise. In Bollywood, while Pawan Kalyan’s OG has beat ‘Homebound’, it is set to face stiff competition from ‘Thamma’ too, releasing on Diwali 2025.
