Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 has been breaking records since the day of it’s release. The prequel to the 2022 hit of the same name, it has earned widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike. It has now joined the ranks of 500 crore earners and is a certifiable Box Office hit. It’s continued domination at the cinemas has led to reduced collections for other features which are currently screening in theatres as well. Movie goers have resoundingly proved that Kantara: Chapter 1 is the flavour of the moment.

A silly faux pas

Perhaps it is due to it’s current position under the spotlight that netizens have been scrutinizing each and every aspect of the film, from numbers and collections to plot and costumes. During once such perusal, netizens discovered a hilarious blooper in the Brahmakalasha song sequence that few would expect: A plastic can of water! The plastic can is clearly visible during a community dining scene at the 3:06 mark.

Now, considering that the movie is set in 4th century AD, it is highly unlikely that the water can was a part of the set or in use by the Kadamba dynasty as plastic was invented in the 20th century AD. Hawk-eyed cyber surfers were quick to point out the mistake and compared it to the famous Game of Thrones mistake in 2019 where a Starbucks cup was left on set and could be seen in an episode when it aired.

Netizens reactions

Once the movie clip and still started making it’s rounds on social media, discussions started racking up on the various platforms and it quickly went viral.

One social media user on X (formerly, Twitter) humorously commented, “The water can represents Rishab Shetty’s humble beginnings. A reminder of his roots and the journey he’s made, which is why he kept it in the film 😌” making light of the goof-up and insinuating that the water can belonged in the scene. While another commented, bemoaning the fact that this detail was missed, “How did they miss this 😭”

Others defended the mistake, saying that it was not that big of a deal, “Why are people making such a big deal about the water can mistake in the movie? Is it really that big of an issue ? I feel like everyone is talking about it just because they noticed something that others didn’t.”

One viral post on X was astounded at the presence of plastic cans in ancient India. The poster said, “Didn’t know the Kadambas used plastic water cans 👀” to which another X user replied, “the north remembers, the coffee cup.” with a picture of the infamous Starbucks scene from Game of Thrones, comparing the two situations. The original poster replied in kind, “Starbucks had a branch in Winterfell.”

Overall, the mistake proved to be a light-hearted moment for netizens to joke and bond over. Counting the numbers and box office collections can get mind numbingly boring very quick. So, a little silliness must be indulged in once in a while. After all, Kantara: Chapter 1 is already a success story and shows no signs of stopping it’s victory lap yet. Surely, it can take a few jokes at it’s expense.
