Coolie Box Office Collection Day 14: The Rajinikanth blockbuster has seen a rapid decline in sales following its first week on the big screen. With a record-breaking Rs 65 crore opening day, the Rajinikanth movie failed to cross the Rs 5 crore mark on Wednesday, day 14. While this was a mid-week improvement after the weekend high of Rs 11.35 crore, Coolie grossed less than Rs 300 crore in India.
On the worldwide box office, despite the sales slowdown, Rajinikanth’s Coolie is close to the Rs 500 crore milestone, reported Mint. However, the film has experienced a significant decline in domestic screenings and a corresponding drop in occupancy rates.
Coolie Box Office Collection: Dipping occupancy rates
Coolie’s release on August 14 marked Rajinikanth’s 50th anniversary of contributing to the entertainment industry. After a groundbreaking feat, the film rapidly declined in sales on weekdays. With reduced sales came scanty occupancy. Overall, the Rajinikanth movie has a 21.40% occupancy in Tamil, 11.75% in Hindi, and 20.13% in Telugu, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.
Chennai audiences, along with Pondicherry, Vellore, and Trichy came in relatively high numbers to watch Coolie in Tamil. While the Rajinikanth starrer experienced a significant decline in Trivandrum and Delhi NCR.
As the number of big screens showing Coolie declined within two weeks of its release, it was only received well in states like Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Hyderabad, with an underwhelming response from the rest Hindi-dominated regions.
Coolie in Telugu, however, received relatively higher audiences in Karimnagar with nearly 41% occupancy rates. Similarly, for Guntur, Kakinada, and Warangal, audiences still reached the theatres to watch Rajinikanth’s Coolie, garnering more than 30% occupancy. Despite high screen share in Hyderabad, audiences managed to occupy an overall 15% across the 363 screens streaming Coolie.
The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial, Coolie, also experiences a significant decline in its IMDb ratings. After a flood of positive reviews and praises for Rajinikanth, it could only garner a 6.4-star rating out of 10. Nagarjuna Akkineni, Shruthi Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, and Aamir Khan also feature in the Rajnikanth-starrer in key roles.
