Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma’s Bombay Velvet movie released on Friday and though its box office collections predictions were mostly on the positive side, some even voicing the Rs 100 crore sum, what came to transpire in theatres was quite the opposite – the takings have been suitably modified downwards especially  as the movie even suffered the ignominy of cancelled shows. Ultimately, the day 1 figure was just Rs 5.20 crore.

The start of the weekend (Saturday, day 2) brought no cheer for Ranbir Kapoor as the movie box office collections added a mere Rs 5.10 crore. Bombay Velvet’s Sunday, day 3, box office collections were Rs 5.80 crore and Monday, day 4, take added up to a sum of just Rs 2.10 crore. The total in the domestic market is Rs 18.20 crore.

The foreign market has not been kind to Bombay Velvet either, managing to barely move the overall take to Rs 26.74 crore.

The negative signs were visible early on Friday. Bombay Velvet opened to a 45-50% occupancy rate across the country while last week’s release Amitabh Bachchan starrer Piku, which has turned into a Rs 50 crore movie, still continues to hold its ground.

This looks to be in line with the trend Ranbir Kapoor movies have been caught in  – the actor’s last 2 movies have failed to enthuse the audiences and suffered being box office collections failures.

The same fate may or may not haunt his latest release Bombay Velvet, but the current news is not very encouraging, despite the presence of Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar.

Kaizad, unwilling to see his grand plans being compromised, tries to adopt the policy of divide and rule between Balraj and Chiman. Does Rosie become successful in her role of a honey trap, does Kaizad become successful in separating the Balraj-Chiman duo and what ultimately happens to ‘Bombay Velvet’, is what forms the rest of the story.
