Baahubali is back and how. It has been ten years since the magic of Mahishmati, the star power of Prabhas, and the ace direction by SS Rajamouli took over the box office, on July 10, 2015. Cut to 2025, Baahubali: The Epic, the combined version of both parts, has hit the theatres on October 31, making fans fall in love with it all over again. SS Rajamouli’s epic tale of royalty and revenge, starring Prabhas as Amarendra Baahubali, has been re-released and viewers are back to theatres to shower their love. Collecting Rs 5 crore in advance booking collections, the film has started creating magic at the box office already. Here’s how much Baahubali: The Epic has earned so far, on Day 1.

Baahubali: The Epic: Initial collections on Day 1

Baahubali: The Epic in the initial few hours of its release has already crossed the Rs 3 crore mark, with the collection of Rs 3.29 crore, according to trade website Sacnilk. The Vijay, Prakash Raj, and Trisha Krishnan starrer was the highest-grossing film of the year 2004.

The combined power of two Baahubali films is also receiving a lot of love in North America as the film collected Rs 5 crore approx. there, and is expected to earn more in the coming days.

Looking at the early trend, the film’s collections have already crossed Rs 13 crore, a stupendous start. The re-released film has been re-edited into a 3 hours and 44-minute movie. While the film released internationally on October 29, in India its hit theatres on October 31.

Re-releasing movies a new trend?

Come November 2, and Shah Rukh Khan film festival will see the re-release of seven of his gems including Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Dil Se, Dil To Pagal Hai, and Devdas, among others. Not all of these movies were box office hits. Dil Se and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa aren’t counted among his commercial successes. But both these movies directed by Mani Ratnam and Kundan Shah respectively, received huge critical acclaim, and are expected to open well at the box office as they re-release in India and worldwide.

Tumbbad re-release outperformed original run

Tumbbad, starring Sohum Shah in the lead, and directed by Rahi Anil Barve and Anand Gandhi was initially released in 2018, made on a budget of Rs 15 crore, failed to recover its budget. However, the fans loved the movie on OTT platforms, and on massive fan demand, the film was released again on September 13, 2024, and became a huge box office success, earning Rs 24 crore in two weeks.

This proved that re-releasing movies may become a major trend in the future, especially if the content is strong and has a repeat value.
