Academy award-winning actress Nicole Kidman has spent an entire lifetime building a truly awe-inspiring portfolio of properties along with her now-ex-husband, legendary country musician Keith Urban. Their 19 years of marriage saw the collection grow across continents, with properties acquired in cities like New York, Nashville and Los Angeles in the US and in Sydney and the Southern Highlands of New South Wales in the couple’s native Australia.
However, the future of those joint properties has suddenly become uncertain with Kidman and her husband splitting after almost two decades together. On Monday Sept 29, it was confirmed that the couple had chosen to part their ways and a day later, on Tuesday Sept 30, the actress officially filed for divorce from the Grammy-winning country musician. The couple share two children from the marriage, daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. Nicole is also a parent to two other children, Bella and Connor from her previous marriage to actor Tom Cruise.
With this era of their lives coming to an end, here’s a look back at all the different places they’ve called home and built a life together. From the rural highlands of Australia to the glamorous city life of Beverly Hills, their real estate portfolio remains truly unbeaten.
Astounding properties in the US
The first major real estate investment that the couple made, came two years after their marriage in 2008. Affectionately dubbed, the ‘Queen of Northumberland’ it is a sprawling estate which came with a hefty price tag of $3 million and has been the primary family home for the Kidman-Urbans according to Architectural Digest and Beautiful Homes. Covering several acres, the property is spread out extensively. The main house includes seven bedrooms, a home theatre, pool, tennis court and an enormous hobby room for creative pursuits.
People Magazine reported that Keith Urban had quietly moved out of the Nashville family home, setting up his own accommodations and that the couple had been “living separately for a while now” calling the split “inevitable” according to sources close to Keith.
The couple also bought another property in the same year that they purchased their Nashville home: a swanky, 4,000 sq ft mansion in the posh neighbourhood of Beverly Hills for $4.7 million. The West Coast estate features five bedrooms, four full bathrooms and gigantic windows with a direct view of the canyons according to a report by the Los Angeles Times.
Finally, the couple’s adventures in property acquisition brought them to New York where they’ve invested in more than one home. In 2020, they purchased a ultra-private, two-bedroom penthouse in Tribeca for $3.5 million according to House Beautiful and Architectural Digest and ten years before that, they bought a luxurious duplex in Chelsea. Costing a whopping $10 million, it features a 3,000 sq ft area which comprises three bedrooms and two terraces with a magnificent view of the Hudson river, per AD.
More than just homes Down Under
In Nicole and Keith’s native Australia, the couple invested in more than just homes. In 2008, they were clearly on a spending spree as, apart from their US properties the couple also purchased a sleepy Australian farm called Bunyan Hill which is located in the rustic hinterlands of New South Wales, according to AD. What makes this estate notable is that it stretches across a massive 100 acres which allows for plenty of animal rearing, apart from living a serene country life. The property cost the couple somewhere between $4 million and $6.5 million. The main house on the farm is a little Georgian mansion built in 1878 which has been kept intact and there is also provision for guests in the form of a small guest cottage. Fans of Nicole Kidman got a look inside the farmhouse when the actress did a “73 Questions With Nicole Kidman” for Vogue in 2015. Viewers were also given a tour around the farm as a part of the interview. Kidman said that the coolest thing about her farm were the “six alpacas” who were being cared for by them.
The following year, the couple made another significant purchase and this time it was in Sydney. As their farm was only one and a half hours away from the capital city, they also kept their options open by acquiring property in the capital city. They took up ownership of a massive penthouse overlooking the Sydney Harbour for a pretty price tag of $4 million and in the year 2012, added onto their Australian portfolio by purchasing another penthouse in the same building for $7 million as per a report by House Beautiful. According to the same outlet, the couple continued to purchase multiple other properties in the same building over the past 15 years.
As divorce proceedings commence, the matter over their various properties is bound to be contentious. Fans of the couple were devastated when the news broke of their separation according to the many posts on social media platforms like Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter) mourning their relationship. With a lengthy battle ahead in court, it will certainly be interesting to observe how the properties will be divided among the two.
