The show India’s Got Latent (IGL) has become a lightning rod for controversy, drawing millions of views for all the wrong reasons. What was intended to be a comedy show has quickly spiralled into a platform for abusive, offensive, and downright misogynistic content, leaving viewers disturbed by the blatant disrespect for women and basic decency.
The latest uproar revolves around YouTubers Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, and Apoorva Mukhija, whose shocking comments on the show have crossed all boundaries of good taste. In one episode, Allahbadia made deeply inappropriate remarks about a contestant’s sexual relationship with their parents—remarks that many viewers have called ‘vulgar’ and ‘perverse.’
In the same episode, a person was seen commenting to Apoorva “Is there no sensation in your v*gina?”… such offensive conversations are all out in the public domain accessible to all and people believe that it will hurt society as a whole.
What’s worse is that this show, despite its offensive content, has gained a massive following, with millions tuning in to watch these influencers laugh off issues of dignity, respect, and decency. It’s an alarming reflection of how toxic and misogynistic content is thriving on digital platforms, simply because it’s packaged as ‘entertainment.’
A police complaint has been filed against the YouTubers and the show organizers, accusing them of promoting harmful and negative influences, especially on young, impressionable audiences. The complaint, lodged with the Mumbai Commissioner and Maharashtra Women’s Commission, demands that strict action be taken to prevent such content from spreading further.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has joined the call for accountability, labelling the remarks ‘absolutely wrong’ and stressing that freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom to disrespect others.
The controversy has sparked wider concerns, with influencers like Gaurav Taneja (Flying Beast) calling for action and even raising fears of YouTube being banned in India due to such incidents.
This isn’t just about one thoughtless joke—it’s about a culture of content that normalizes harm, perpetuates misogyny, and exploits the entertainment space for shock value. The millions of views these videos receive are a grim reminder of how easily society can become numb to harmful behaviour when it’s packaged as ‘comedy.’
