In light of the prevailing cold wave conditions in Delhi, the winter vacation for primary school students up to grade five has been extended until January 12, as announced by Delhi Education Minister Atishi on Sunday. Originally, schools were scheduled to resume on Monday following the winter break.
Atishi stated on ‘X’ that “Schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next five days due to the prevailing cold weather conditions, for students from Nursery to Class five.”
A circular from the Directorate of Education (DoE) specified that schools may conduct online classes for primary students during this period. “In view of the prevailing weather condition, there will be no classes for Primary Sections (Nursery to Class V) in physical mode in any Government, Government-Aided and Recognised Private schools for the next five days. As far as possible, schools may organise online classes for their respective students of Primary classes,” the circular mentioned.
The DoE further outlined that on January 13 and January 14, which are the second Saturday and Sunday respectively, students of primary classes will resume physical classes on January 15.
It was emphasised that schools for other classes (6 to 12) will reopen on Monday, but considering the weather conditions, no school will commence before 8 am and classes will not extend beyond 5 pm, as per the circular.
With Delhi experiencing a cold wave, the India Meteorological Department has forecasted dense fog, light rainfall and a drop in temperature over the next few days.
