The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the postponement of the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2025 in order to provide more preparation time for aspirants. The decision was made following changes in the recruitment process for the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS), according to an official statement released on Friday.

The Indian government recently decided that recruitment for IRMS would be conducted through both the Civil Services Examination (CSE) and the ESE. The CSE will cover the recruitment for Traffic, Accounts, and Personnel sub-cadres, while the ESE will handle recruitment for Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Signal and Telecommunication, and Stores sub-cadres.

“In order to give sufficient time to the aspirants of ESE 2025 to prepare for the examination, the Commission has also decided to postpone the ESE (Preliminary) and ESE (Main) exams,” the UPSC statement said.

To accommodate both new and existing applicants, the UPSC will open a new application window from October 18 to November 22, 2024. Candidates who applied during the original window (September 18 to October 8) are not required to reapply but can update their details during this period if needed. Additionally, a correction window will be available from November 23 to November 29 for applicants to edit their information.

Initially, the ESE Preliminary Exam was scheduled for February 9, 2025, but it will now be held on June 8, 2025. Similarly, the ESE Main Exam has been rescheduled from its original date to August 10, 2025.

The changes come after the Ministry of Railways notified the IRMS (Amendment) Rules, 2024 on October 9, incorporating IRMS into the ESE-2025. This decision led to the halting of the correction window that was set to open on October 9 for applicants who had already submitted their forms.

The UPSC has advised all ESE 2025 aspirants to review the updated details before submitting their applications or making corrections.
