In North India, a cold wave and intense cold are prevailing. Due to this, winter vacations have been extended in several districts, including some in the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP). Due to severe cold and fog, holidays for schools from the first to the eighth grade in Agra district of UP have been extended until January 24. This order will apply to all schools under all boards. The order to extend the holidays was issued by the district magistrate of Agra, Bhanu Chandra Goswami.

Similarly, in the centrally governed Chandigarh, holidays for schools up to grade 5th have been extended for one week. Now, schools here will reopen on January 29. Officially, due to the cold, schools will remain closed until January 25. However, there are also holidays on January 26 and 27. After that, January 28 is a Sunday. Therefore, schools will reopen on January 29.

For schools conducting regular classes, it has been instructed to operate them only from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM. However, for this, they must have adequate arrangements in classrooms such as heaters to protect against the cold. Classes, practical exams, and pre-board exams will not be conducted outdoors or in open spaces. Additionally, there is no mandatory requirement for students to wear uniforms. They have been instructed to come dressed in warm clothing, according to an official statement.
