NEET PG 2024 SC Hearing: The Supreme Court of India is set to hear the NEET PG case today as students voice concerns regarding the transparency of the results and the normalisation process employed by the National Board of Examinations for Medical Sciences (NBEMS). A petition, filed on September 7 and first heard on September 13, calls for clarification on result handling and transparency measures.
In an earlier hearing on September 20, a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices Manoj Misra and JB Pardiwala reviewed issues surrounding the normalisation of marks, answer keys, and results for the NEET PG exam, which was conducted in two shifts for the first time this year. Petitioners argued for the release of answer keys, question papers, and raw scores, asserting that these measures should become standard practice to ensure fairness and clarity for all candidates.
With NEET PG 2024 held on August 11 in two separate shifts, NBEMS implemented a normalization process similar to that used by AIIMS-New Delhi in multi-shift examinations. This shift-wise format and the accompanying normalization have left some students anxious, as variations between shifts can potentially impact scores.
Further complicating matters, the official counselling schedule has yet to be confirmed, leaving many candidates in limbo as some states await the Supreme Court’s ruling before proceeding with the admissions process. During the last hearing, the absence of a central representative caused a delay, with the Court noting its dissatisfaction over last-minute adjustments to the exam pattern.
As students and stakeholders await the outcome, NEET aspirants are calling on the court to mandate the release of question papers, answer keys, and response sheets to foster transparency in this competitive examination.
