Owing to jet stream winds prevailing over the plains of North India, enhancing cold wave/cold day conditions are likely to continue in northern parts of the country during the next 3-4 days.
Cold-day to severe cold-day conditions are very likely to continue in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh till January 25, 2024, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) latest weather forecast.
Isolated pockets of north Rajasthan & north Madhya Pradesh and Bihar will also reel under chilly weather during January 22-25. As per IMD, no significant change in minimum temperatures is predicted over northern parts of the country during the next 5 days.
Ayodhya to see chilly conditions
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a ‘cold wave’ advisory for Ayodhya ahead of the ‘Pran Prathishtha’ ceremony for the Ram Temple.
As per the dedicated webpage for Ayodhya’s weather forecast on the IMD website, the recorded temperature was 8 degrees Celsius at 6 am with visibility at 1200 meters.
The prediction indicated minimum temperatures range from 6 to 8 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures for the day will be between 15 to 17 degrees Celsius, the MeT department mentioned.
Fog conditions to prevail over parts of India
Dense to very dense fog will continue to prevail for a few hours in the night/morning over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan during the next 3-4 days.
Meanwhile, the national capital will also continue to get foggy conditions at isolated places over Delhi till January 25. A few pockets of Jammu Division, Himachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura will see low visibility owing to fog conditions till January 26.
Delhi sees prolonged cold days conditions
On Sunday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 15.8 degrees Celsius, five notches below the season’s average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 4.8 degrees Celsius.
The weather forecast agency predicted cold day conditions to continue in isolated pockets of Delhi on January 22.
Rainfall update
Due to a trough in easterlies from South Interior Karnataka to east Vidarbha and anti-cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal in the lower levels, light rainfall at isolated places is likely over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal during the next 4-5 days.
