A state-wide alert has been issued in Bihar after intelligence inputs revealed that three suspected Pakistani terrorists have entered the state. According to the Bihar Police, the three terrorists are Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) operatives and they infiltrated into the state through the Indo-Nepal border. Currently, Bihar is witnessing several rallies from political leaders like Narendra Modi, who was in the state a few days ago, and Rahul Gandhi, who is currently in the state for the Voter Adhikar Rally.
The state police headquarters said sketches of the suspects have been released, while surveillance has been intensified in border districts adjoining Nepal, particularly Araria, from where the trio is believed to have entered.
“All district police and specialised wings have been directed to maintain close watch, intensify patrolling and conduct search operations to thwart any attempt by anti-national elements,” Director General of Police Vinay Kumar told PTI.
Identity of terrorists?
According to the sketches released by the police, the suspects have been identified as Hasnain of Rawalpindi, Adil of Umerkot and Usman of Bahawalpur in Pakistan. Their photographs have been circulated across all district police units.
Given Bihar’s long and porous border with Nepal, additional security measures have been deployed at sensitive installations, airports and tourist hotspots. According to PTI, security has been tightened around the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, the Vishwashanti Stupa in Rajgir, Mahaveer Mandir in Patna and Takhat Sri Harimandir Ji, Patna Sahib.
High-footfall areas under heavy security
Officials said area domination patrols and extraordinary vigil are being maintained, particularly in high-footfall zones. The elections in Bihar are scheduled to take place sometime in November this year. No official dates have been announced for it so far but the state is already witnessing high political activities with national leaders visiting Bihar for public rallies.
