Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s personal assistant, Bibhav Kumar, was sent to four-day judicial custody on Friday in connection with the Swati Maliwal assault case.

The Tis Hazari court sent Bibhav Kumar to Tihar jail till May 28.

Kumar was produced before the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Goyal, as his police custody had ended. During the proceedings, advocate Rajat Bhardwaj, representing Bibhav, informed the court that the CCTV footage supports his client’s case. He has filed an application to protect the CCTV footage and present it before the court. Bhardwaj also questioned the prosecution regarding the number of DVRs they have seized.

Kumar was arrested on May 18 and was sent to five-day police custody that ended today.

What is the Swati Maliwal assault case?

According to the police, on May 13, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal, the former chief of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) called the police control room (PCR) in the morning alleging that she had been assaulted by Kumar at Kejriwal’s residence.

The police also added that she had gone to the Civil Lines police station, but did not file an official complaint.

A day later, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh addressed the media stating that the party would take “strict action” against Bibhav Kumar.

A few days later, Swati Maliwal filed a written complaint to get charges pressed against Kumar and also got a medical examination done.

Following the complaint, Bibhav Kumar was arrested on May 18.
