External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on Monday, highlighted the growing strategic partnership between India and the United States during his address at the CII Partnership Summit 2024.

He acknowledged the unpredictability of the second Trump Administration, but stressed that India’s strategic convergence with the US has only strengthened over time.

“Different countries have had their own experiences from the first Administration and would presumably draw from that to approach the second. Where India is concerned, I can state with confidence that the strategic convergences with the United States have only grown deeper with time,” he said.

“Naturally, between two major economies, there will always be some give and take. When we look at economic or technology domains, the case for trusted and reliable partnerships have actually increased in recent years,” he added.

According to Jaishankar, the deepening collaboration presents new opportunities for both countries, particularly in economic and technological domains. He pointed out that India’s young, talented workforce could play a significant role in addressing global challenges in areas like AI, electric vehicles, and clean energy.

Addressing broader global shifts, Jaishankar discussed the rising backlash against globalisation, the US-China tensions, and the Ukraine conflict, which have impacted industries and living standards worldwide. He underlined the growing importance of nations seeking trusted partners to tackle these challenges.

Additionally, Jaishankar highlighted India’s role in the Global South, focusing on its partnerships with 78 countries and efforts in providing development aid and capacity-building. He stressed the need for India to strengthen its domestic capabilities, from manufacturing to talent development, to enhance its appeal as a global partner.

In conclusion, Jaishankar called for India to balance domestic growth with international alliances to secure its position as a global leader in the years ahead.
