While the agency did not provide details regarding the identity or specific recovery locations of the bodies, officials said that a total of 23 army personnel were swept away after a cloudburst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim triggered flash floods in the Teesta River Basin on October 4.

The fate of seven other soldiers still remains unknown, according to officials.

Flash floods in Sikkim caused destruction of 13 bridges across the state at that time. In Mangan district eight bridges were washed away, while Gangtok and Namchi each saw three and two bridges destroyed, respectively.
