There is a lot of frustration among the public over issues like water scarcity, water contamination, lack of development, neglect towards tourism, communal tension, unemployment and emigration, agricultural issues, and Maratha agitation.
As the opposition targets Bhosale over these issues, he argued that for the overall development of the Satara district, there is a need for a strong and stable government at the Centre. During his poll campaign, Bhosale promised to set up new industrial units, and IT parks in Satara, to ensure youth employment.
The scarcity of water is one of the major issues in the Satara Lok Sabha Constituency. In April this year, due to drought section 144 was enforced in the region with district administrations issuing orders prohibiting water theft from canals and restricting the transportation of cattle fodder outside the area to address the shortage.
Meanwhile, Shinde criticised Bhosale for his alleged inaction in Satara even after he had been elected as an MP from the seat three times.
Due to less rainfall last monsoon, dams and other reservoirs were not filled up to their maximum capacity. Now, most lakes and ponds in the districts have dried up.
Last year, around 50 villages and 170 hamlets in Satara district faced an acute shortage of water for drinking and irrigation purposes. There is frustration with the failure of the government’s implementation of the Jal Jeevan scheme.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Shrimant Chh. Udayanraje Pratapsinha Bhonsale from NCP won the seat and was polled 522,531 votes with a vote share of 53.50 per cent. Independent candidate Purushottam Jadhav got 155,937 votes (15.97 percent) and was the runner-up. Shrimant Chh. Udayanraje Pratapsinha Bhonsale defeated Purushottam Jadhav by a margin of 366,594 votes.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Shrimant Chh. Udayanraje Pratapsinhmaharaj Bhonsle from NCP won the seat with a margin of 126,528 votes. Shrimant Chh. Udayanraje Pratapsinhmaharaj Bhonsle was polled 579,026 votes with a vote share of 52 percent and defeated Narendra Annasaheb Patil from Shiv Sena who got 452,498 votes (40.48 percent).

It is noteworthy that Satara Lok Sabha Constituency seat has been known as a bastion for Sharad Pawar and the NCP since 1999, with the party winning the seat seven times. The BJP has been trying for years to breach this NCP citadel which has persistently withstood the Modi wave as seen in 2014 and 2019. This time, the party has pitted Udayanraje Bhosale, a former NCP leader and three-time MP from Satara against its NCP opponent. Interestingly, Bhosale is the 13th direct descendant of the Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji. The polling in Satara was held in the third phase on May 7. The current MP is Shriniwas Dadasaheb Patil of the NCP since a by-poll in 2019, preceded by Srimant Udayanraje Bhonsle (2009-2019 as NCP leader).
