Delhi Police have slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on two people for violating traffic laws, including the use of a modified silencer on a motorcycle and for misbehaving with officers during a security patrol in the Okhla area, reports ANI.
The incident took place ahead of Republic Day when police were conducting routine security checks. According to authorities, the two youths were spotted riding a motorcycle erratically, creating loud noises with a modified silencer, and driving in a zigzag manner.
When police attempted to stop them, one of the youths claimed to be the son of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan and accused the officers of targeting him due to his father’s political position. The duo also refused to provide their driving licenses and identification, asserting they were not required to do so.
In an attempt to resolve the matter, one of the youths called his father, who spoke with the Station House Officer (SHO). Despite this, the two left the scene without disclosing their names or addresses. Police subsequently impounded their motorcycle and registered a case under multiple sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
In addition to the fine, the bike was seized as part of the investigation.
Commenting on the incident, BJP candidate from Malviya Nagar, Satish Upadhyay, criticised the AAP and its leaders. “The party involved in extortion and associated with gangs is questioning the law and order in Delhi,” he said. “Amanatullah Khan’s son misbehaved with the SHO, claiming his status as the MLA’s son. The AAP is destroying law and order in Delhi while its leaders, including the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and MPs, face criminal cases and are out on bail,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.
Probe in the case is underway.
